INTRODUCTION-
Teacher Education plays a vital role in shaping the future of nation, as educators are responsible for
imparting knowledge, skills and values to the next generation . In India DIET is one of the key institution involved in Teacher Education. DIET serves as prominent centre for teachers’ training and curriculum development at district level.
Being a grass root level training centre its aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and
practical skills by providing the necessary pedagogical tools, methodologies and subject expertise to the aspiring teachers by creating district specific needs. Our DIET ensures that teachers are well equipped to address their local communities unique challenges and demands.
HISTORY-
Shikshaniketan Govt, Primary Teacher’s Training Institute is one of the reputed teachers’ training colleges of Purba Bardhaman in West Bengal. It is at Kalanabagram, a village encircled with greenary. In 1953 a Govt. Primary Teacher’s Training Institute was established at Shikshaniketan which was there in the village Kalanabagram with a view to improve the quality of education by means of training to the teachers concerned. Then it was started with 40 male and 20 female under the guidance of 4 lecturers as Junior Basic Training College on the land provided by Shikshaniketan. Later on, in the year 1991, this institution was renamed as Shikshaniketan Govt, Primary Teacher’s Training Institution. This esteemed institute is fully funded by Govt. of West Bengal under the affiliation of WBBPE .Now this institute is recognised by NCTE also. DIET in BURDWAN was launched in 2005 however, with the appointment of a Principal in charge along with other faculty members, the functioning of the Institute became vibrant .
This institute offers two year D.El.Ed course for the trainee teachers. Amidst the exotic natural ambience this institute runs its acadmic activities with its mission to enhance the qualities of the would be teachers. Since its inception the institute is committed to impart lessons on scholastic and non-scholastic, curricular and co-curricular activities and also to focus on value education.

DIET –BURDWAN is situated at the premises of Primary Teacher’s Training Institute- Kalanabagram
(which is up-graded to DIET of Burdwan District) at village Kalanabagram in the Block Memari-I.
ACCESSIBILITY –
By Train— The place is well connected by train, though from nearby railway stations( one is PALSIT, at
Howrah-Burdwan Main line and another PALLAROAD, at Howrah-Burdwan Chord line) one will have to
depend on rickshaw/trolley-van for rest 3 k.m.
