HISTORY-
Shikshaniketan Govt, Primary Teacher’s Training Institute- (at Kalanabagram) was up-graded to DIET of Burdwan District . A Govt, Primary Teacher’s Training Institute was established in the year 1953 at Shikshaniketan (at village Kalanabagram) with a view to improve the quality of education by means of training to the teachers concerned. Then it was started with 40 male and 20 female under the guidance of 4 lecturers as Junior Basic Training College on the land provided by Shikshaniketan. Later on, in the year 1991, it has become renamed as Shikshaniketan Govt, Primary Teacher’s Training Institute.

DIET –BURDWAN is situated in the premises of Primary Teacher’s Training Institute- Kalanabagram (which is up-graded to DIET of Burdwan District) at village Kalanabagram in the Block Memari-I.

By Train— The place is well connected by train, though from nearby railway stations( one is PALSIT, at Howrah-Burdwan Main line and another PALLAROAD, at Howrah-Burdwan Chord line) one will have to depend on rickshaw/trolley-van for rest 3 k.m.
DIET in BURDWAN was launched in 2005 however, with the appointment of a Principal in charge along with other faculty member, the functioning of the Institute became vibrant and operationalised in the beginning of the year 2006 as a Nodal Unit for organizing Adult Education and Non Formal Education Programmes for the school dropouts, child labourers and out of school children as well as meeting the challenges in the way of achieving Quality Elementary Education. The performance and activities of DIET are guided and monitored by a Governing Body under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to Government (Education).
PHYSICAL FECILITIES
DIET in BURDWAN has been functioning in its own building offered by the Government of West Bengal covering total area 582.72 Sq. metres, out of which 367 Sq. metres from P.T.T.I. Kalanabagram. DIET, BURDWAN has an administrative building from where the administration and planning are being carried out. The Library housed within this administrative building is spacious enough. The other houses spread amidst the whispering canopy of trees, include the lecture hall, the hostels, separate kitchen, one for men one for women besides two quarters, for Group-C employees and one for Principal. The institute also has a playground for out-door activities. All these spread over an area of about 2.69 Acres.
